I’ll Fly Away, Oh Glory! May 27, 2009

The room was small, the air humid, the seats filled, and the voices loud.

“I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away (in the morning) when I die hallelujah by and by I’ll fly away.”

Close to one hundred people filling this small chapel singing at the top of their lungs with excitement. The unmistakable sound of men’s voices drowning out the rest.

These guys knew how to sing. They sang with their hearts.

It was true singing.

And it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.

No, I wasn’t listening to a men’s choir. I was listening to men who have just discovered hope, who have learned that God has such a big plan for their lives.

I was listening to the men of Hebron Colony. A place of hope for men who are battling addiction to alcohol and drugs. In the course of the ten week program, the men are fed the word of God and many come to faith in him.

My brothers and I had the privilege of singing and playing for the men on Sunday night.  During the course of the evening there was a time for anyone in the congregation to share what the Lord has done or been doing in their lives. I was, once again, in awe of God and how he works in a life that is completely surrendered to Him. But the thought that struck me the most is that I was seeing 2 Corinthians 5: 17-18 in action.

” Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself, and gave us the ministry of  reconciliation.”

After the service ended, my brothers were able to stick around and play with some men, sadly I didn’t since I don’t play an instrument, yet! (That’s about to change!) It was fun, and we hope to go back soon.

As I sat there listening to them play, I recounted the evening in my head, and I thought about how excited the men were about their new found liberty in Christ, and I started to wonder if I convey that same excitement to others around me. I’m not sure if I do. I hope I do, but if I honestly took a good, long hard look at myself, I’m not sure I do.

I have become complacent, I have forgotten what Christ’s sacrifice has done for me. I have trivialized that I was once dead but now I am alive and a new creation through Christ! Oh, Lord! Do not let me forget this so easily!

” And I was dead in the trespasses and sins in which I once walked, following the course of the world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- among whom I lived in the passions of my flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and was by nature a child of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved me, even when I was dead in my trespasses, made me alive together with Christ-by grace I have been saved- and raised up with him, and seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” ~ Ephesians 2: 1-6

Never forget…

It’s over.

I survived the Home Show. My legs are still quivering from all the standing, but I survived.

Drew and I arrived at the Holme’s Center on Friday morning to finish our set up, we had to be done by 12:00 sharp!

We succeeded, just in time too, they were serving free pizza and we were able to get some. Delish, very delish. There was also some birthday cake for someone who I didn’t know, but I ate their cake. So Happy Birthday, person I do not know! Hope it was great!

Here is the booth just after we finished setting up:

I was rather pleased with the end result, and you will notice that we do not have a hot tub or chicken anywhere to be found.

Since Drew and I finished a little early, we had a chance to walk around and see the other vendors. Here was one of my favorites:

Yes, that’s a waterfall. Any guesses as to who won “Best Booth”?

Friday was a good day, a little slow but still a good day. Saturday, however was great! In fact Drew was so excited! Look:

Sorry, I can’t seem to turn this picture, I’ll try and fix this soon.

Oh, and look here is a shot of my feet on the cold, hard, concrete floor:

Can’t you just feel the pain? I know, I know terrible shoe choice for that day, but hey, beauty is pain.

All in all the home show was a great experience, and we are definitely going to do it again! Thanks for letting me share our journey.

So, What’s New? May 14, 2009

‘Ello, friends! Yes, I just pulled out my British accent. I’m feeling rather jaunty today, and feel like being all British with you.

I’m digressing.

Ahem.

I am currently sitting at my desk, watching the ink dry. No, literally I’m watching ink dry. We have an event going on this weekend, called the “Boone Home Show” and MSM is participating. Basically we set up a booth, give out free candy, smile at all the people and call it a day.

Oh I kid.

Sort of.

Really, we’re participating this year to help get our name out, to people who might not know we exist. It’s sure to be a grand time! Drew and I have been the masterminds behind our booth, and since we both have over-the-top minds we were thinking of all manners of craziness to make our booth the BEST ONE EVER!!!!! The idea of having a hot tub there may or may not have been tossed around, and the idea of smoking our own barbecue chicken inside the arena may or may not have been suggested as well. I mean, who can turn down a soak in a hot tub and some free chicken??? Would you?

In the end we decided to stick with the basics: candy and brochures, a businesses best friends. Seriously now, who can resist the charm of sticky, sweet goodness paired with a glossy, colorful brochure? It’ s almost too much for the human psyche to handle. It’s like you’re handing out combinations of fun for everyone!!

What I’m really doing here is trying to get myself  pumped up so I can act like I’m SUPER EXCITED to be handing them out.

Yes, I’m working the home show.

Hi. My name is Molly, and I am encountering my worst nightmare tomorrow. I am working a home show. Now most of you are probably saying Oh, Molly, it’s no big deal. Don’t worry, it’ll be fun.” Ha! Yeah, well if you consider standing on your feet on cold, concrete floors, with no place to sit but the cold, concrete floor all while handing out brochures and candy fun, knock yourself out.

Be my guest, ’cause that’s what I’m doing all day tomorrow!! The cool thing though, is that I will get to  meet a lot of people that I’ve never seen before!! And I get to wear one of my new, freshly embroidered shirts  that I’ve never worn before!! And I get to eat Chick-Fil-A that I have eaten before!!

The day does have its ups.

So I’m trying to think on the positive: new people+new shirt+Chick-Fil-A= great bloggable moments!

That’s definitely a plus to the whole experience.

So I will be back on Monday with pictures and stories from the 15th ANNUAL BOONE HOME AND GARDEN SHOW!!

Until then, have a great weekend!

G’bye friends!

The Wedding! May 12, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mollyepetrey @ 2:53 am

FINALLY! My pictures are uploaded! Now I can show you all the fun we had in Fuquay-Varina for my cousin Lauren’s wedding. Lauren and Michael were married on May 2nd at 6:00 in the evening at a beautiful place called Highgrove Estate. The setting was gorgeous, and the view was beautiful!

I didn’t get any pictures of the ceremony, because, hello! I’m not the hired photographer, and I thought it would look really tacky. Sort of like “hey ya’ll! I’m the cousin from up yonder in Boone, mind if I take some pictures?”  Yeah, not the greatest of first impressions.

I did, however, get some shots at the reception, which was so beautiful. So, enough words, onto pictures!

Here we have AD, Dixie, and Adam (Hi, Adam!) Adam is the brother of the bride, making him my cousin! Forgive the lighting, I didn’t have my flash on so it turned out to be a sort of orange color. Although, I prefer to call it “Amber Glow”.

And here we have my mom and dad. Aren’t they cute?

AprilMay 072

And here is Uncle Doug (bride’s father), AD and Dixie. When Lauren and Uncle Doug had the father/daughter dance, I totally teared up! It was too sweet!!

AprilMay 073

Here is the menu card and favor. Lauren’s grandmother, Charlotte, made the favors. In each box was a different sweet treat, I had Mexican Wedding Cookies, they were great!

AprilMay 078

And here is David and Nell, two of the most fun people you will ever meet! It was great to see them, and catch up.

 AprilMay 081

Here is the happy bride and groom. Isn’t her dress pretty? I thought it was gorgeous!

AprilMay 082

This was the couples dance, I love that tradition!

Lauren’s wedding was beautiful, and I wish them many years of happiness! Congratulations, Lauren and Michael!

A Little Update… May 10, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mollyepetrey @ 3:02 am

Well, no luck yet, but I am thinking that this problem will be fixed on Monday. Let me explain: normally I insert my memory card into my printer that has a special reader. Unfortunately, the reader does not recognize my new memory card, that’s why I can’t upload my photos. But, I have a USB cord at the office, that I will bring home on Monday. This should do the trick! So be checking here after 4:30 on Monday, and you will finally see the pictures from my cousin’s wedding (which was beautiful!!). Thanks for your paitence, I hate it when this stuff happens.

See you on Monday!
